BANGOR, Maine – It took Shawn Jordan a little while to get going, but once he did he proved to be difficult for Jack May to stop. After getting cut open and nearly knocked out in the first two rounds, Jordan got to work in the final frame with a takedown and ground-and-pound assault which May couldn’t repel, leading to a TKO stoppage at 2:03 of round three.
The heavyweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 47 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 2.
Jordan seemed to have difficulty with May’s height and reach advantage early on, struggling to find his range and eating a few too many punches in the process. In the second May had him in serious trouble after a left hook opened a deep cut around Jordan’s right eye, and the ensuing punching barrage seemed on the verge of knocking Jordan out before a hail Mary takedown allowed him to ride out the round.
With that weakness in May’s defenses detected, Jordan knew exactly how to start the final round. After taking May down right away, Jordan quickly took his back and moved to mount, peppering a prone May with left hands from the top, eventual forcing the TKO stoppage when May proved unable to extricate himself from the situation.
With that, Jordan got the green light for another celebratory post-fight backflip. Even with the cuts marring his face, he still managed to stick the landing.
Jordan (16-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC) snaps a two-fight losing streak with the victory. May (7-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) has now lost two straight in the UFC.
