Although he’s a slight favorite according to the oddsmakers, Clay Guida (30-14 MMA, 10-8 UFC) got the unanimous nod from the staff, who predict he’ll defeat fellow veteran featherweight Tatsuya Kawajiri (33-7-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC).
Their bout co-headlines UFC Fight Night 39, which takes place at Abu Dhabi’s du Arena. The event, which streams entirely on UFC Fight Pass, kicks off at 12:15 p.m. ET (9:15 a.m. PT).
The heavyweight headliner, meanwhile, saw Roy Nelson (19-9 MMA, 6-5 UFC), a small favorite at the sportsbooks, take a 6-2 nod over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (34-8-1 MMA, 5-4 UFC).
The two other main-card bouts reflected the odds. Three staffers predict John Howard (22-8 MMA, 6-3 UFC) will upset undefeated welterweight Ryan LaFlare (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC), and only one expects Ramsey Nijem (8-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) to defeat 2-1 favorite Beneil Dariush (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC).
