ABU DHABI – Clay Guida, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Roy Nelson and Ramsey Nijem each earned $50,o00 performances bonuses for their work today at UFC Fight Night 39.
Guida and Kawajiri earned “Fight of the Night” bonuses, and Nelson and Nijem earned “Performance of the Night” honors.
UFC officials announced the winners at the post-fight press conference.
UFC Fight Night 39 took place at du Arena in Abu Dhabi and streamed in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass.
Despite Guida earning a clean sweep (30-27 across the board) on the judges’ scorecards, his featherweight co-headliner with Kawajiri proved to be an entertaining affair. Although rocked early, Kawajiri survived and eventually threatened with submissions while taking turns tossing around each other with Guida, who eventually pulled away in the later rounds.
Nelson, meanwhile, scored a violent first-round knockout of Nogueira in the night’s heavyweight headliner. “Big Country” rocked the veteran early and unloaded a series of his trademark overhand rights. The final one resulted in a walk-off KO win for Nelson.
Nijem, meanwhile, was fueled fighting in the Middle East. The Palestinian-American fighter looked sharp in his first-round knockout of Beneil Dariush in the main-card opener. After dropping Dariush, Nijem sealed the deal with some ground and pound.
