UFC Fight Night 36 video preview: Mousasi says Machida 'just another opponent'

While Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Lyoto Machida (20-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) both believe a win over the other could lead to a title shot, they don’t necessarily seem too impressed with each other.

The middleweight contenders headline Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 36 event at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Mousasi and Machida are both targeting a shot at UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman or his UFC 173 opponent, Vitor Belfort, Mousasi described the stakes, though he’s clearly not intimated by ex-champ Machida.

“I believe this fight will be for the No. 1 contendership,” Mousasi said. “On this stage, no one intimidates me.

” … I will get to the title shot much easier after I beat Machida. He’s just another opponent.”
