Soa “The Hulk” Palelei made up for his lackluster UFC return by stopping Pat Barry in his home country of Australia at UFC Fight Night 33 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Friday night.
Palelei immediately looked for the takedown, but Barry circled free. As Barry looked for a flying knee, he allowed Palelei to secure the takedown. Barry went for a Kimura from the bottom, but Palelei transitioned to mount and rained down with ground and pound, forcing the stoppage at 2:09 of round one.
An elated Soa Palelei fired up the crowd following the victory leading them in the traditional “Aussie, Aussie Aussie; Oi, Oi, Oi” chant.
The win was Palelei’s tenth straight and sends a warning out to the other heavyweight’s who may have underestimated him after his last fight in the Octagon.
