UFC Fight Night 31 results, photos: Bobby Green bizarrely TKOs James Krause

FORT CAMPBELL – In a heavily anticipated matchup that featured a bizarre ending, Bobby Green earned a dubious TKO win over James Krause.

The lightweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 31 event at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on MMAjunkie.com and ahead of a main card on FOX Sports 1.

They pair engaged quickly to open the fight, but an early timeout was called when Krause took a kick to the groin. On the restart, Krause began to find a home for his jab. Green waved him in for more as he looked to dip and toll his shoulders, but Krause used his length well to score points. Late in the frame, Green scored with another inadvertent kick to the cup and was deducted a point.

On the restart, Green kicked again to the body, and the heel appeared to strike the cup before Krause collapsed to the floor, lying face down. Referee John McCarthy moved in and immediately waved off the fight, presumable to call for a disqualification for a third low blow. Instead, McCarthy ruled the shot a legal blow, and Green was awarded an odd TKO win.

“It was actually belt line, and ‘Big’ John saw it, too,” Green said after the fight. “I don’t want to do it this way. I say they let us fight. We can start this over and we can do it over from the beginning. It’s just bad luck. One time, he stepped in and I caught him as he was coming in, and it was terrible bad luck.

“I do not kick guys low, and I hate for the fight to go this way. We can come back and rematch it and do whatever Joe Silva and Dana White wants to happen.”

Green (21-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) now boasts a six-fight winning streak. Krause (20-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) sees an eight-fight winning streak snapped.
