BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil – Glover Teixeira, Piotr Hallmann, Rafael Natal and Tor Troeng each earned $50,000 bonuses for their performances at Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 28 event.
Teixeira earned the “Knockout of the Night,” Hallman won “Submission of the Night” and Natal and Troeng picked up “Fight of the Night” honors.
UFC President Dana White announced the winners following the card.
UFC Fight Night 28 took place at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The main card aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.
In the main event, Teixeira (22-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) had to survive getting rocked and knocked down by Ryan Bader (15-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC). But once he did, he made it back to his feet and waited out a few more Bader strikes to slip a 1-2 combination through the American’s arms. He dropped Bader, then quickly pounced on him to pound him out for a TKO stoppage in the first round.
Hallmann (14-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) was in all kinds of trouble against Francisco Trinaldo (13-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC), and in hostile territory in Trinaldo’s home country. But he survived some massive kicks from Trinaldo to get to the second round, and there, midway through, he sensed the home favorite tiring. He was able to get on top and torque his way to an upset victory with a kimura.
Natal (17-4-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) and Troeng (16-5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) battled back and forth, with each fighter needing to survive perilous moments from the other just to stay in the game. In the second, Natal drilled Troeng repeatedly early, then went after a submission on the ground. But Troeng was able to make it to the third. There, Natal mostly imposed his will on the ground – when Troeng wasn’t threatening to reverse in a thrilling fight.
