UFC Fight Night 24 Play-by-Play: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Phil Davis

Round 1: Front kick then high kick by Davis open up the action in the main event.  Another front kick by Davis lands hard.  The two clinch against the cage for a moment, but decide to separate and meet again in the center of the Octagon.  More high kicks by Davis halfway through the first round.  Davis is yet to take Nogueira down.  Nogueira counters a Davis kick with some punches and wobbles him.  Davis trying more kicks, but Nogueira is countering them well.  All takedown attempts by Davis were stuff in the first round.  10-9 Nogueira.

Round 2:  Davis is standing with Nogueira and using lots of kicks, but Nogueira is still doing a good job of countering them.  Another stuffed takedown by Nogueira keeps this fight standing and he lands a solid kick for good measure.  With two minutes left, Davis finally lands a takedown and works while Nogueira is on his back.  Nogueira pushes him off, but not before Davis rushes him and controls his back.  Down on the ground, Davis sneaks in punches from behind and the round ends with knees to Nogueira’s back.  10-9 Davis.

Round 3: Flying knee by Davis followed by another high kick.  Davis gets his opponent down and works from half guard before Nogueira gets up for just a brief moment.  Davis is quick to grab his opponent from the back and drag him back down.  Back in half guard, Davis gets pushed off and the fight gets back to the feet.  Nogueira stuffs a takedown, but a second attempt by Davis earns him the takedown with just under two minutes to go.  Davis is working hard to get passed Nogueira’s guard, but can’t seem to do so.  The round comes to an end and the fight is going to the judges.

Official call: Phil Davis defeats Antonio Rogerio Nogueira by unanimous decision. (30-27 x3)
