UFC Fight Night 100 results: Pedro Munhoz taps Justin Scoggins with second-round guillotine choke

SAO PAULO – By all indications, Justin Scoggins’ debut at bantamweight was going swimmingly against Pedro Munhoz.

But a singular slip on the mat – actually, the second time he lost his feet – cost Scoggins (11-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) the fight when Munhoz (13-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) slapped on a guillotine choke.

The bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 100 event at Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of the rest of the card on FS1.

The official end came at the 1:55 mark of the second frame, when Scoggins, a former flyweight forced to 135 pounds after a botched weight cut, had nowhere to go and submitted after a brief and intense struggle. All at once, Munhoz was in complete control of the fight, a rapid turnaround for a fighter who initially looked out of step.

Scoggins, looking no worse for the wear in a heavier division, controlled the distance with persistent kicks, and easily keyed in on Munoz’s timing. Aggressive charges were met by a duck of the head or a sneaky right hand. As the second frame commenced, Scoggins began to utilize his power left to crack his Brazilian opponent.

A slip to the mat – courtesy of a spinning kick – gave Munhoz a brief window to take Scoggins down in the first. That time,
the new bantamweight was able to escape. When he slipped on a front kick, however, Munhoz expertly capitalized.

Munhoz now has won two straight fights via guillotine, while Scoggins sees a two-fight winning streak snapped.
