Waylon Lowe vs. Willamy Freire

Round 1: Lowe quickly scores the double-leg takedown, landing in Freire’s guard, starting a ground and pound attack. Lowe lands a few hard shots to the face, but Freire fires back with elbow strikes to the top of Lowe’s head, then begins searching for a Kimura. Unbelievable… referee Dan Margliotta stands them up while Freire had Lowe’s right arm secured working for the Kimura. Lowe rocks Freire and puts him on his back once again, looking to work his ground and pound. MMAWeekly.com scores round one 10-9 for Lowe.

Round 2: Freire stuffs Lowe’s initial takedown attempt, but eats some knees in the clinch, and then gives up a big takedown on Lowe’s next attempt. Freire goes for a triangle, but Lowe picks him up and breaks the hold, dropping back down into Freire’s guard. They jockey for position while Lowe tries to implement ground and pound, Freire driving elbows into Lowe’s head. They slow the pace and the ref stands them up with a little over a minute left in the round. Lowe looks tired, but dives in with a looping left hand that rocks Freire, then takes him down to the mat again. MMAWeekly.com scores round two 10-9 for Lowe.

Round 3: Lowe was looking tired at the end of round two, but seems to have recouped some of that energy between rounds. Freire lands a couple kicks and deftly avoids Lowe’s takedown attempts. Freire hits Lowe a couple times in the face while he is on his knees. Lowe comes up and shoots, but Freire lands in top position in Lowe’s half guard. Freire starts unloading with punches to the face, but Lowe scrambles out and back to his feet. Lowe looks exhausted, but still shoots and get Freire to his back, landing in half guard. Freire again secures Lowe’s right arm, searching for the Kimura. Lowe defends and gets his arm free with just under a minute left in the fight. Friere again attempts the Kimura, but Lowe keeps it in tight, defending to the bell. MMAWeekly.com scores round three 10-9 for Freire, but the fight 29-28 for Lowe.
