Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano will be joined by New York State Senator Dean Skelos and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray as they honor newly crowned UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman at the Coral House on Wednesday, July 17, and proclaim it Chris Weidman Day in Nassau County.
The ceremony will be streamed live by Nassau County on Ustream, and is available for viewing here on MMAWeekly.com at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT in the video player below.
On July 6, 2013, Chris Weidman completed his “Rocky”-like story by knocking out and upsetting arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all-time, Anderson Silva, to become the UFC middleweight champion. Weidman, a former New York State champion wrestler at Baldwin High School, and All-American at Nassau Community College and at Hofstra University, is a true hometown hero.
In addition to being the newly crowned UFC middleweight champion, Chris has proved himself to be a noble neighbor in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy when he and his wife organized a food and clothing drive to benefit those that were affected by the storm. Of note, Chris’ own home was devastated by SuperStorm Sandy and he and his family moved in with his parents for four months.
