UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and undefeated challenger Daniel Cormier are set to square off in the UFC 182 main event on Saturday, Jan. 3, in Las Vegas.
There has been a strong accumulation of side stories building as the fight approaches.
Jones was initially slated to defend against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 178 in September. Gustafsson had to drop out of the fight due to injury, and so Cormier stepped in.
In the lead-up, Jones and Cormier engaged in a highly publicized brawl at a media day event, which drew both men penalties from the Nevada Athletic Commission.

They were also caught in a suspect “off-air” moment before an ESPN interview, where Jones said he would “kill” Cormier.

The September date was nixed, however, when Jones suffered an injury. Now the fight is rescheduled for Jan. 3, and the UFC is pulling out all of the promotional stops.
This Sunday at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT, the promotion debuts “UFC Presents Bad Blood: Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier” on FOX Sports 1.
The program delves deep into the rivalry between Jones and Cormier, which started well before the two were actually scheduled to step in the Octagon opposite one another.
UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Jan. 3. The amin card airs on pay-per-view, while the prelims will be show in a combination of UFC Fight Pass and FOX Sports 1 broadcasts.
