UFC Announces Fall Events in Toronto, Montreal; Aldo Officially Headlines July 21 Event in Calgary

The UFC will visit Canada three times in 2012, as the promotion announced at a press conference on Wednesday that events will be held in Calgary, Toronto and Montreal in the coming months.

The Las Vegas-based promotion will make its inaugural visit to Calgary with UFC 149 on July 21, which will be headlined by a Jose Aldo featherweight title defense, according to UFC President Dana White. The event is expected to take place at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Following its trip to Alberta, the promotion will return to Ontario and Quebec this fall, as it holds UFC 152 and 154 in Toronto and Montreal on Sept. 22 and Nov. 17, respectively. All three Canadian events will be pay-per-view cards, said Tom Wright, the UFC director of Canadian operations. White also revealed that the trio of Canadian cities will become regular destinations for the UFC for the next two years.

Aldo’s next opponent is not known at this time. Though White admitted that several bouts are in the works for the card, the matchups were not revealed.

Widely regarded as one of the sport’s top pound-for-pound talents, Aldo has not lost since 2005. Riding a 14-fight winning streak heading into the fourth defense of his UFC belt, “Scarface” bested Mark Hominick and Kenny Florian in 2011 to retain his title. Most recently, the Nova Uniao product knocked out Chad Mendes in front of a partisan Brazilian crowd at UFC 142 on Jan. 14, finishing the powerful wrestler via knockout with only one second remaining in the first round.
