UFC 205 medical suspensions: Chris Weidman out 60 days following bloody knockout loss

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is out two months pending medical clearance after a knockout loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 205.

MMAjunkie recently requested and today received the list of medical suspensions stemming from this past Saturday’s pay-per-view event at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Weidman fared well in the first two rounds of the middleweight title-eliminator before Romero threw a flying knee as he attempted a takedown attempt. The impact immediately sent Weidman to the canvas and opened up a huge cut on his head, which bled generously on the octagon canvas.

A total of 12 fighters received medical suspensions following the event. Belal Muhammad and Rafael Natal, who were respectively knocked out by Vicente Luque and Tim Boetsch on the FS1-televised prelims, also were given 60-day terms.

Despite his emphatic stoppage win, Luque got an indefinite suspension pending clearance, suggesting his fortune didn’t come without a serious injury setback.

Although he was nearly knocked out in the fourth round of his welterweight title bout against champ Tyron Woodley, Stephen Thompson received only a 30-day term.

• Eddie Alvarez: suspended a minimum 30 days pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance

• Joanna Jedrzejczyk: suspended 30 days
• Karolina Kowalkiewicz: suspended 30 days
• Chris Weidman: suspended a minimum 60 days pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance
• Miesha Tate: suspended a minimum 30 days pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance
• Michael Johnson: suspended 30 days
• Vicente Luque: suspended indefinitely pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance
• Belal Muhammad: suspended a minimum 60 days pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance
• Jim Miller: suspended a minimum 30 days pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance
• Rafael Natal: suspended a minimum 60 days pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance
• Liz Carmouche: suspended a minimum 30 days pending New York State Athletic Commission clearance
