UFC 204 results: Marc Diakiese shuts down Lukasz Sajewski for second-round TKO in UFC debut

MANCHESTER, England – For one round, UFC newcomer Marc Diakiese encountered his nightmare in the octagon – getting smothered by Lukasz Sajewski.

But Sajewski (13-3 MMA, 0-3 UFC) came with exactly one round’s worth of energy, giving striking specialist Diakiese (10-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) free reign to use his opponent as a punching bag until he expired in the second round.

The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 204 event at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. It aired on FS1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of the main card on pay-per-view.

The fight was called off at the 4:40 mark of the second round, when Sajewski finally took a knee after taking dozens of unanswered punches. Diakiese, a former BAMMA champ, remains unbeaten as a professional while Sajewski, a short-notice injury replacement, remains winless in the octagon.

Diakiese no doubt wanted to make a splash his octagon debut, charging across the ring in preparation for some sort of flying attack. But he hesitated for a moment, allowing Sajewski to clinch up and get an easy takedown. Lying on his back, Diakiese found himself smothered as Sajewski held side control and briefly achieved mount.

Diakiese scrambled out of danger and found his way back to his feet, where he found time to pull off that bit of highlight reel action, turning Sajewski’s weak guillotine attempt into an almost pro-wrestling style slam. It wasn’t long before he was back on the mat, but he showed he wasn’t out of the fight.

As it turned out, that was Sajewski’s state as the second round got underway. Diakiese battered him with heavy right hands as he slumped over, occasionally hurling a lazy hook in his defense. After a while, it became increasingly clear he didn’t have the energy to properly defend himself, and Diakiese moved in for the finish.
