Stefan Struve’s height is a weapon in every fight, but it was his often overlooked ground game that ultimately won him his fight with Daniel Omielanczuk.
The heavyweight bout was part of the main card of UFC 204 at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. It aired pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
The fight started as a stand-up battle before Struve (28-8 MMA, 12-6 UFC) decided to put Omielanczuk (19-6-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC) on the ground. Omielanczuk fended off choke attempts from Struve to survive the opening round, something he was not as successful at in the second.
In Round 2, Struve scored a trip takedown and quickly moved into a D’arce choke. He tightened the hold until the tap at the 1:41 mark of Round 2.
