UFC 196 salaries: McGregor ($1M), Diaz ($500K), Holm ($500K) lead way

Headliners Conor McGregor ($1 million) and Nate Diaz ($500,000), as well as co-headliner Holly Holm ($500,000), earned the largest disclosed paydays at Saturday’s UFC 196 event.

MMAjunkie recently obtained the list of the disclosed paydays from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the event.

UFC 196 took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

In the headliner, Diaz (19-10 MMA, 14-8 UFC) handled featherweight champion McGregor (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in a non-title welterweight bout and scored a second-round submission victory. In the co-headliner, Miesha Tate (18-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who earned $92,000, upset Holm (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) via fifth-round submission to claim the women’s bantamweight title.

The total disclosed payroll for the event was $2,871,000.

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, including the official UFC Athlete Outfitting sponsorship program pay. They also do not include any other “locker room” or special discretionary bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays. They also do not include pay-per-view cuts that some top-level fighters receive.

For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out additional $50,000 UFC 196 fight-night bonuses to Diaz, McGregor and Tate. Diaz and McGregor earned “Fight of the Night” awards while Diaz (who earned $100,000 total) and Tate picked up “Performance of the Night” honors.

In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.
