If you’re going to bet on Ronda Rousey ahead of her recently announced UFC 195 headliner, get ready to wager big to win a little.
Following today’s announcement of a UFC 195 main event that will have Rousey (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) meet Holly Holm (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) – and not Miesha Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC), as originally planned – oddsmakers have handicapped the title fight. The bout takes place Jan. 2 and airs on pay-per-view from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The opening odds have tapped Rousey a -1250 (12.5 to 1) favorite over +825 (8.25 to 1) underdog Holm, according to BestFightOdds.com.
In other words, a $100 bet on Rousey would earn you a profit of $8 if she’s victorious. A $100 bet on Holm would earn you a profit of $825 if she pulls off the upset.
As a comparison, Rousey is a -320 (3.2 to 1) favorite over Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and a -1200 (12 to 1) favorite over Tate, according to the books’ lines for the potential bouts.
Rousey is a massive favorite for good reason. She most recently defeated Bethe Correia at UFC 190 for her sixth consecutive title defense. Rousey, who was a 15-1 favorite in that Aug. 1 fight, has recently dominated the competition with quick victories over Sara McMann (66 seconds), Alexis Davis (16 seconds), Cat Zingano (14 seconds) and Correia (34 seconds).
She now meets Holm, a former pro boxer (33-2-3) who took up MMA in 2011. Since joining the UFC in 2014, she’s defeated Raquel Pennington (split decision) and Marion Reneau (unanimous decision) in hard-fought but largely underwhelming performances. She gets a major step up in competition against heavy favorite Rousey.
