UFC 193 post-fight facts: Joanna Jedrzejczyk sets title-fight striking record

One of the biggest upsets in MMA history took place in Saturday UFC 193 pay-per-view headliner when Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey with a vicious head kick to capture the women’s bantamweight title.

A UFC-record crowd filled Melbourne, Australia’s Etihad Stadium expecting to see another dominant performance from “Rowdy,” but Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) unleashed a brutal knockout to hand Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) her first career loss.

The main event may have generated the headlines, but a number of other notable feats occurred at UFC 193, including a new striking record in the co-headlining title fight.

Etihad Stadium

UFC 193 was the fifth event in UFC history to feature two stoppages stemming from body strikes. The feat also occurred at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale, UFC on FOX 7, UFC Fight Night 35 and UFC Fight Night 45.

Rousey and Kyle Noke earned $50,000 UFC 193 fight-night bonuses. Holm earned $100,000 in fight-night bonuses.

UFC 193 drew an announced attendance of 56,214 for a live gate of $6.8 million. The attendance broke the previous record of 55,724 held by UFC 129 in April 2011.

Betting favorites went 7-6 on the card.

Total fight time for the 13-bout card was 2:11:48.

Main card

Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm

Holm became the second UFC women’s bantamweight champion in history. Rousey had held the title for the division’s entire existence, since February 2013.

Holm’s three-fight UFC winning streak in women’s bantamweight competition is tied with Julianna Pena for the second longest active streak in the division behind Miesha Tate (four).

Holm has earned seven of her 10 career victories by knockout.

Holm has never been taken down in UFC competition. She’s defended all six opponent takedown attempts inside the octagon, including one from Rousey.

Rousey had her 12-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of her career.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) five-fight UFC winning streak in strawweight competition is the longest among active fighters in the division.

Jedrzejczyk’s five UFC strawweight victories are the most in divisional history.

Jedrzejczyk has earned six of her 11 career victories by decision. That includes three of her five UFC wins.

Jedrzejczyk’s 220 significant strikes landed set a new UFC title-fight record.

Jedrzejczyk’s 220 significant strikes landed were the second most in a UFC fight behind Nate Diaz’s 238 significant strikes at UFC 141 in December 2011.

Jedrzejczyk’s 70 leg kicks landed set a new UFC record. Carlos Condit held the previous record with 68 leg kicks landed at UFC 143.

Valerie Letourneau (8-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) fell to 2-1 since she dropped to the women’s strawweight division in April 2015.

Letourneau has suffered three of her four career losses by decision.

Mark Hunt and Antonio Silva

Mark Hunt (11-10-1 MMA, 6-4-1 UFC) has earned five of his six UFC victories by knockout.

Antonio Silva (19-8-1 MMA, 3-5-1 UFC) fell to 3-6-1 in his past 10 bouts.

Silva fell to 0-3 in rematches during his career.

Silva has suffered seven of his eight career losses by knockout. All seven of those stoppages have come in the first round.

Robert Whittaker (15-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC) improved to 3-0 since he moved up to the UFC middleweight division in November 2014.

Uriah Hall (12-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has suffered all four of his UFC losses by decision.

Jared Rosholt’s (14-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) three-fight UFC winning streak in heavyweight competition is tied for the third longest active streak in the division behind champion Andrei Arlovski (seven) and Fabricio Werdum (six).

Rosholt has earned five of his six UFC victories by decision.

Stefan Struve (26-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of his career.

Jake Matthews

Jake Matthews (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has earned all three of his UFC victories by stoppage.

Akbarh Arreola (23-10-1 MMA, 1-3 UFC) has suffered six of his 10 career losses by some form of knockout.

Kyle Noke (22-7-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) improved to 3-1 since he dropped to the UFC welterweight division in September 2012.

Noke has earned five of his six UFC victories by stoppage.

Peter Sobotta (15-5-1 MMA, 2-4 UFC) suffered his first UFC loss since he returned to the organization for a second stint in May 2014.

Sobotta suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Gian Villante

Gian Villante (14-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has earned all three of his UFC stoppage victories by knockout.

Anthony Perosh (15-10 MMA, 5-7 UFC) suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in his UFC career. He’d previously alternated wins and losses over five fights.

Perosh has suffered seven of his 10 career losses by knockout.

Danny Martinez (17-7 MMA, 1-3 UFC) snapped his three-fight losing skid for his first victory since December 2012.

Richie Vaculik (10-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. He’s just 1-3 in his past four UFC appearances.

Richard Walsh (9-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Steve Kennedy (22-8 MMA, 0-2 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of his career. He’d been stopped in his previous seven losses.

James Moontasri

James Moontasri (9-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) was successful in his UFC welterweight debut. He went 1-2 in the organization as a lightweight.

Moontasri has earned seven of his nine career victories by stoppage.

Moontasri earned the third knockout in UFC history stemming from a spinning back kick to the body. David Loiseau and Dennis Siver also accomplished the feat.

Anton Zafir (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered both of his career losses by knockout.

Ben Nguyen (15-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) extended his career-high winning streak to nine fights. He hasn’t suffered a loss since August 2010.

Nguyen has earned 13 of his 15 career victories by stoppage. He’s finished both of his UFC opponents in the first round.

Nguyen’s two first-round stoppage victories in UFC flyweight competition are tied with Joseph Benavidez for the most in divisional history.

Nguyen’s submission victory at 2:35 of Round 1 marked the fourth fastest finish in UFC flyweight history.

Ryan Benoit (8-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has suffered both of his UFC losses by submission.
