Fourteen fighters from this past Saturday’s UFC 193 have been given medical suspensions of up to 180 days – and three of the four title fighters could be out as long as six months.
The UFC self-regulated the card, which featured two title fights, and reported its official list of medical suspensions to MMA records site MixedMartialArts.com.
UFC 193 took place at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. The event set a new UFC attendance record and aired on pay-per-view, FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
In the main event, Ronda Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) suffered a massive upset loss when she was knocked out by Holly Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in the second round of their women’s bantamweight title fight. Rousey is out at least 60 days, but needs to have a negative CT scan of her head following the knockout in order to avoid a 180-day layoff. Holm received a mandatory minimum seven-day suspension.
In the co-main event, Joanna Jedrzejczyk (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) defended her strawweight title with a five-round unanimous decision win over Valerie Letourneau (8-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC). Both fighters could be out as long as 180 days. Jedrzejczyk needs to have her right hand cleared by a doctor; she said she broke it in the fight. And Letourneau could be out six months unless she has a negative CT scan of her head to get released early.
Other fighters potentially out for 180 days are Robert Whittaker (15-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC), who beat Uriah Hall (12-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) on the main card; Jared Rosholt (14-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC), who topped Stefan Struve (26-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) in a heavyweight bout; and Steven Kennedy (22-8 MMA, 0-2 UFC), who lost to Richard Walsh (9-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) on the prelims.
All fighters from the card were given suspensions of at least seven days (with no contact during training for seven days). Those with longer terms included:
