HOUSTON – UFC newbie Sage Northcutt wasn’t on the docket for Wednesday’s open workouts in Houston, but he showed up anyway.
The newly signed 19-year-old Houston-area native makes his debut on Saturday night against Francisco Trevino (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), and a UFC public relations rep told MMAjunkie the kid basically begged to come downstairs at the host hotel to show some moves to the fans and meet the media.
Northcutt (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) had some pretty heavy-hitting company on the mats before and after his workout and scrum, including UFC 192 headliners Daniel Cormier (16-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Alexander Gustafsson (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC), who fight for Cormier’s light heavyweight title; co-main event welterweight contenders Johny Hendricks (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) and Tyron Woodley (15-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC); and light heavyweights Ryan Bader (19-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) and Rashad Evans (19-3-1 MMA, 14-3-1 UFC).
The fighters worked out ahead of UFC 192, which takes place Saturday at Toyota Center in Houston. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
