UFC 192 post-fight facts: Cormier-Gustafsson set new 205-pound strikes record


Daniel Cormier became just the third of the past six UFC light-heavyweight champions to successfully defend the belt when he defeated Alexander Gustafsson in Saturday’s UFC 192’s main event.

Cormier (17-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) outworked Gustafsson (16-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) for a dramatic split-decision victory after the pair landed a record-setting amount of significant strikes over the course of five rounds.

The UFC’s first event at Houston’s Toyota Center in nearly two years provided several notable results outside of the pay-per-view headliner. Check below for 50 post-fight facts to come out of UFC 192.

UFC 192 drew an announced attendance of 14,626 for a live gate of $1,859,000 million.

Betting favorites went 9-3 on the card.

Total fight time for the 12-bout card was 2:14:20.

Cormier improved to 4-1 since he dropped to the UFC light-heavyweight division in February 2014.

Cormier has out-landed every UFC and Strikeforce opponent he’s faced except Jon Jones.

Cormier and Gustafsson combined for 260 significant strikes, a single-fight record for a UFC light-heavyweight bout. Jones vs. Gustafsson at UFC 165 held the previous record with 244 significant strikes.

Cormier and Gustafsson’s 260 significant strikes landed were the second most in UFC championship fight history behind Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks, who combined for 308 significant strikes at UFC 171.

Gustafsson suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in his career.

Gustafsson became the 15th fighter in history to compete in a UFC title bout following a loss. Fighters are now 5-10 in the spot.

Bader’s 13 victories in UFC light-heavyweight competition are tied Rashad Evans and Chuck Liddell for second most in divisional history behind Jones (15).

Bader has earned all the victories on his current winning streak by decision. He’s earned nine of his 13 UFC victories overall by decision.

Bader has never lost a fight that has gone to a decision.

Bader’s 41 takedowns landed in UFC light-heavyweight competition are the second most in divisional history behind Evans (50).

Rashad Evans’ (19-4-1 MMA, 14-4-1 UFC) total fight time of 4:00:55 in UFC light-heavyweight competition is the most in divisional history.

Evans has suffered three of his four career losses by decision.

Ruslan Magomedov’s (14-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) three-fight UFC winning streak in heavyweight competition is the third longest active streak in the division behind Andrei Arlovski (seven) and champ Fabricio Werdum (six).

Magomedov has earned eight of his past nine victories by decision. That includes all three of his UFC wins.

Joseph Benavidez’s (23-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak in flyweight competition is tied for the second longest active streak in the division behind champion Demetrious Johnson (nine).

Benavidez’s eight UFC flyweight victories are second most in divisional history behind Johnson (nine).

Ali Bagautinov (13-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has suffered all four of his career losses by decision.

Julianna Pena (7-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) earned the first decision victory of her career.

Jessica Eye (11-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in her career. She’s 1-3 with one no-contest in her past five fights.

Eye has suffered all three of her UFC losses by decision.

Tumenov has earned eight of his past nine career victories by knockout. That includes three of his four wins under the UFC banner.

Tumenov has landed five knockdowns over his past four UFC appearances.

Alan Jouban (12-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) suffered his first knockout loss since May 6, 2011 – a span of 1,611 days (more than four years) and 14 fights.

Martins (28-7 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has earned three of his four UFC victories by stoppage.

Islam Makhachev (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) had his 12-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Sage Northcutt (6-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC), 19, became the youngest fighter in UFC history to earn a victory.

Northcutt has earned all six of his career victories by stoppage.

Francisco Trevino (12-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Sergio Pettis (13-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) improved to 1-1 since he dropped to the UFC flyweight division in March 2015.

Pettis has earned all four of his UFC victories by decision.

Chris Cariaso (17-8 MMA, 7-6 UFC) suffered his third consecutive UFC loss, the longest skid of his career.

Cariaso fell to 4-5 since he dropped to the UFC flyweight division in July 2012.

Cariaso has suffered four of his six UFC losses by decision.

Derrick Lewis’ (13-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) six UFC heavyweight appearances since 2014 are the most of any fighter in the division. No heavyweight has more than four bouts in that timeframe.

Lewis has earned 12 of his 13 career victories by knockout. That includes all four of his wins under the UFC banner.

Lewis became the first fighter in UFC history to reach six appearances and have them all end in a knockout.

Viktor Pesta (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career.
