UFC 192 medical suspensions: Gustafsson draws potential 6-month term

Alexander Gustafsson’s mandatory medical suspension reflects his five-round slugfest with light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier at this past Saturday’s UFC 192 event.

The two-time Swedish title challenger is out for six months pending doctor clearance, according to medical suspensions MMAjunkie today obtained from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversaw the pay-per-view event at Toyota Center in Houston.

In a gutsy performance, Cormier surged in the fifth round and earned a split-decision victory in his toughest fight to date. Gustafsson, meanwhile, lost in his second title shot, but he still managed to thrill fans by showing up the champion at several points.

All fighters from UFC 192 were issued mandatory suspensions, though 14 were given longer terms than the minimum 10 days required by the TDLR. Details on the suspensions were not disclosed on the event’s official results sheet.

Notably, “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America” winner Yair Rodriguez drew an indefinite suspension, presumably due to a foot that was gruesomely swollen after his decision over Daniel Hooker on the event’s FOX Sports 1-televised prelims. Rodriguez told MMAjunkie his foot isn’t broken despite the massive swelling he endured.

Heavyweight Shawn Jordan also drew two suspensions, a minimum six-week term and an indefinite term following his decision loss to Ruslan Magomedov on the same preliminary card. During the telecast, Jordan was overheard complaining of a broken rib between rounds.
