UFC 185's Elias Theodorou: The median age for my weight division is 30

DALLAS – UFC middleweight Elias Theodorou said he went to college to enrich his mind, then found MMA in a quest to enrich his body.

He must also have taken some classes in strategic planning, because three years after going pro in the sport, he’s got a good handle on his potential for upward mobility.

“I’m just on my journey and just beginning,” Theodorou (11-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) said backstage after his win over Roger Narvaez (7-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at this past Saturday’s UFC 185. “The median age for my weight class is 31. I’m 26.”

In other words, Theodorou is in prime position to sharpen his skills as he climbs the ranks of 185-pound fighters. On the FX-televised prelims of Saturday’s pay-per-view event at Dallas’ American Airlines Center, he did just that.

While Theodorou’s fists might have forced referee intervention, it was actually his leg that set the fight’s end in motion. A kick broke Narvaez’s arm and sent him to the mat before a flurry of punches brought an end to the bout in the second round.

Theodorou now has three straight UFC wins after running the table on “TUF Nations.” It’s back to the drawing board for the young fighter as he waits for his next fight.

“I’m the kind of fighter that looks better the longer the fight goes,” he said. “I want it to go three rounds, because I have enough for six rounds. I’m just going to keep doing me and breaking my opponents.

“It took Stella a little bit to find her groove in the second, but she did it, and boom.”
