UFC 184 Drug Tests All Come Back Clean Despite One Abnormal Result

UFC 184 Drug Tests All Come Back Clean Despite One Abnormal Result

Every fighter on the UFC 184: Rousey vs. Zingano fight card was drug tested, and as of Monday morning, all of them produced negative results.

California State Athletic Commission executive director Andy Foster on Friday confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that every fighter on the UFC 184 card provided urine and blood samples for testing. At that point, he only had the results for the urine samples, which were all negative, but on Monday morning, Foster said that the blood test results also revealed no banned substances.

Ronda Rousey Cat Zingano UFC 184 weigh-in“I am very pleased that UCLA’s Olympic Analytical Laboratory has reported the drug testing results from UFC 184 to the California State Athletic Commission have all come back clean,” Foster said in a statement to MMAWeekly.com. “All 22 licensed mixed martial artists were tested, submitting both blood and urine specimens.  The Commission would like to commend the fighters at this event and for upholding the best traditions of martial arts.”

There was one fighter on the card that had produced a questionable result. When that fighter’s sample was submitted to further scrutiny via a carbon isotope test, it showed that the abnormal result was a naturally occurring anomaly.

Carbon isotope testing is often used to determine whether or not a high level of testosterone result is naturally occurring or due to exogenous supplementation.

Foster could not reveal the person whose sample was submitted for carbon isotope testing due to privacy laws in California, but confirmed that the result of the CI test indicated no exogenous use.

UFC 184 headliners Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano were each also tested outside of competition. Each returned clean results in the out-of-competition tests in addition to their fight-night tests.
