UFC 177 results, photos: Chris Wade quickly chokes out Cain Carrizosa

SACRAMENTO – It was Chris Wade’s first time on a UFC broadcast, but apparently he was in too much of a hurry to make the moment last.

After a slick toss that put Cain Carrizosa on his back in the opening seconds, Wade (8-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) wasted no time swarming his opponent on the mat, eventually locking up a guillotine choke that put Carrizosa (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to sleep at 1:12 of the first round.

The lightweight bout opened up the preliminary card of today’s UFC 177 card at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. It aired on FOX Sports 1 ahead of a main card on pay-per-view.

While Wade proved right away that his grappling skills are a force to be reckoned with, the bout was over so quickly that fans hardly got a chance to see any other aspects of his game. After tossing Carrizosa to the floor with a big throw to start the bout, Wade briefly thought about taking his man’s back before deciding against it and transitioning instead to a beautiful arm-in guillotine.

From there, Wade had nothing left to do but roll with Carrizosa as he tried to escape, cinching the choke on tighter as Carrizosa rolled to his back. Carrizosa brought his hand up to tap, but it was too late. Before he could let the referee know he was done, his eyes rolled back in his head and his limbs went limp. With that, the matter was decided.

Wade has now won three straight, including this victory in his UFC debut. Carrizosa loses for the first time in his professional career.
