Eight fighters received medical suspensions beyond the customary seven-day rest periods following this past weekend’s UFC 177 event.
Event headliner Joe Soto, for example, could be sidelined up to six months due to a possible right-hand fracture and a nose laceration.
MMAjunkie today obtained the list of medical suspensions from the California State Athletic Commission.
UFC 177 took place Aug. 30 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1.
Soto, who replaced ex-champ Renan Barao on a day’s notice, ultimately suffered a fifth-round knockout loss to reigning bantamweight titleholder T.J. Dillashaw in the main event.
The full list of UFC 177 medical suspensions included:
- Joe Soto: suspended 180 days with no contact during training sessions for 180 days due to a possible right-hand fracture unless cleared early by a physician; suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to a nose laceration unless cleared early by a physician; regardless, suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days and must undergo an ophthalmology exam for precautionary reasons
- Danny Castillo: suspended 180 days with no contact for 180 days due to a possible right-thumb fracture unless cleared early by a physician
- Tony Ferguson: suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to a right-eyebrow laceration unless cleared early by a physician
- Shayna Baszler: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons
- Ramsey Nijem: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons
- Damon Jackson: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days and must undergo a neurological exam for precautionary reasons
- Ruan Potts: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons
- Cain Carrizosa: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons
