Two lightweights looking to avoid the unemployment line will bang it out in "Sac-Town."
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will give a pair of struggling lightweights a chance to turn things around -- at the expense of each other -- when Justin Edwards collides with Yancy Medeiros at the UFC 177 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sat., Aug. 30, 2014, inside the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
UFC announced the booking on Monday.
Edwards (8-4) was riding high with a submission win over Josh Neer in late 2012; however. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 grad was unable to sustain the momentum, and dropped consecutive bouts to Brandon Thatch and Ramsey Nijem. Now "Fast Eddy" is on a fast track to Splitsville.
But that all depends on his opponent.
Medeiros (9-2, 1 NC) hasn't seen the win column in over four years. Sandwiched between losses to Rustam Khabilov and Jim Miller is a fight against Yves Edwards, one that was overturned when the Hawaiian was popped for the green stuff, leaving the Strikeforce import winless inside the Octagon.
It could be loser leaves town on fight night.
UFC 177 will be headlined by the bantamweight championship rematch pitting reigning division kingpin, TJ Dillashaw, against Brazilian nemesis and ex-titleholder Renan Barao. Elsewhere on the card, Derek Brunson and Lorenz Larkin hook 'em up in a battle of Strikeforce veterans, while Danny Castillo and Anthony Ferguson butt heads in lightweight action.
