Those leg kicks were nasty, though.
Marcus Brimage was out of mixed martial arts (MMA) action for more than one year after suffering a technical knockout loss to Conor McGregor in a featherweight scrap at UFC on FUEL TV 9. "Bama Beast" returned tonight (Sat., July 5, 2014) on UFC 175's pay-per-view (PPV) main card against Russell Doane in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And he struggled.
Doane controlled the action early with superior grappling, threatening late in the first round with a submission. Brimage managed to avoid by exploding out and getting back to his feet, where he fired off hard leg kicks.
And they were hurting badly.
Doane worked hard to stay in tight after the onslaught on his lower half. His left leg was so bad, in fact, the commentary team was pushing the fact that it may actually be injured.
That's why Brimage was targeting it in the third and final round. Still, Doane stayed in and exchanged punches, all while taking those nasty kicks. It was close headed to the judges scorecards, enough so that the final decision was split.
Scores: 29-28 Doane, 29-28 Brimage, and 30-27 Doane.
