UFC 174 results, photos: Jason Saggo stops Josh Shockley with first-round TKO

VANCOUVER – Jason Saggo (10-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) added another finish to his resume with a first-round stoppage of fellow octagon newcomer Josh Shockley (11-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

Saggo deftly outgrappled Shockley, executing takedowns and holding dominant positions until he was able to secure a TKO.

The lightweight bout opened up today’s UFC 174 event at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional prelims on FX and a main card on pay-per-view.

The tapout came at the 4:57 mark of the first round, when referee Jerin Valel waved off the fight as Saggo pounded at Shockley from back mount in the waning moments of the opening frame. Shockley took issue with the stoppage, but he had little room to work as Saggo trapped him in the bad spot.

Saggo took control of the fight from the opening moments of the night’s first bout, executing a beautiful throw that immediately put Shockley on his back and on the defensive. While Shockley was able to get out of bad positions early on in the round and get back to his feet, Saggo tripped him to the mat and continued to exert his will.

Saggo earns his second career TKO and has yet to see the scorecards in victory. Shockley sees a two-fight regional streak snapped.
