UFC officials Thursday announced the matchup, which takes place April 26 from Baltimore Arena and precedes a light heavyweight title headliner between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira. The event will also see Jake Ellenberger take on Tarec Saffiedine in a pivotal welterweight clash, while former flyweight title contender Joseph Benavidez returns to the Octagon opposite Tim Elliott.
Castillo, 34, saw a two-fight winning streak halted in his most recent outing, in which he dropped a controversial majority decision to Edson Barboza at UFC on Fox 9. Prior to that setback, “Last Call” scored unanimous decision wins over Paul Sass and Tim Means to kick off 2013.
Vallie-Flagg, meanwhile, was outpointed by Elias Silverio in his most recent outing to snap a six-year unbeaten stretch for the American. The 35-year-old competed just once last year, outpointing Yves Edwards in a split verdict at UFC 156 before a back injury forced him to withdraw from a planned UFC 161 appearance this past June.
