UFC 170 Fight Card Expands with Addition of Mike Pyle vs. TJ Waldburger

Mike Pyle vs James Head TUF 16 FinaleA welterweight bout between Mike Pyle and TJ Waldburger has been added to the burgeoning UFC 170 line-up.

UFC officials announced the bout late Tuesday.

Pyle (25-9-1) had been surging up the ranks of the 170-pound division, on the cusp of entering into the title talk mix, until he ran into Matt Brown at UFC Fight Night 26 in August. Pyle had been on a four-fight winning streak, but Brown stopped him dead in his tracks with a 29-second knockout.

Having been competing since 1999, when he lost a decision to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, the 38-year-old Pyle is in the twilight years of his career, but another run up the welterweight division could begin with a win at UFC 170.

Waldburger (16-8), at just 25 years of age, doesn’t have the seasoning that Pyle does, but has been competing under the UFC banner since 2010, shortly after Pyle began his UFC run.

Waldburger is currently 4-3 during his UFC tenure, but is coming off of a loss to Adlan Amagov at UFC 166.

A light heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans and incoming 205-pounder Daniel Cormier is expected to headline UFC 170 on Feb. 22 in Las Vegas.
