Jose Aldo vs. Ricardo Lamas

Round 1: They touch gloves and the first or two title fights tonight is underway.  Lamas moving on the outside.  He misses with a high kick.  Aldo moves in with a jab.  Lamas throws an outside leg kick and Aldo checks it.  Aldo inches forward.  He lands to the body with a left hand.  Lamas throws a high kick that’s blocked.  Aldo checks another leg kick.  Lamas pushes forward with a combination but Aldo covered.  Aldo delivers a combination followed by a leg kick.  He lands a spinning back kick to the body.  Lamas switches stances.  He lands a kick to the body.  Aldo rushes forward and lands a right hand.  Aldo lands a counter right hand.  He goes to the body with a left hook.  Lamas misses with a spinning kick meant for the body.  Aldo leaps in with a right hand at the bell.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Aldo.

Round 4: Lamas throws a leg kick and Aldo checks it.  Aldo continues to land leg kicks.  Lamas changes levels and works to get the fight to the ground.  Aldo lands short right hands.  Lamas has Aldo in the air but Aldo hands on to him.  Lamas continues to try to secure a single leg takedown.  Aldo turns him.  They work for position along the cage.  Aldo trips Lamas to the ground.  Aldo lands a left hand.  Aldo works from the half guard position.  He lands to the body.  Lamas lands to the body from the bottom.  Aldo advances to the mount position.  Lamas rolls and Aldo takes his back.  Also works for a rear naked choke.  It’s not under the chin,  Lamas punches from the bottom.  Lamas scrambles to his feet and works to take Aldo down.  He delivers knees to the legs of Aldo.  Aldo responds with elbows to the side of the head.  Lamas lands a knee to the body at the bell.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Aldo.

Round 5: Lamas lands a kick to the body.  He moves forward.  He throws a huge left hand and Aldo initiates the clinch.  He takes Lamas down from there.  Lamas has full guard.  Aldo peppers Lamas’ body with punches. Aldo advances to side control and then to the mount position.  He lands a few left hands.  Lamas bucks and escapes out the back door and gains top position.  Two minutes remain in the round.  Lamas postures up and lands two left hands.  Aldo works to control his posture.  Lamas lands a solid elbow.  Lamas lands another elbow.  He postures up.  Aldo tries to control his wrists.  Aldo ties him up.  Lamas postures up and lands hard shots.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Lamas.

The judges scored the fight for Aldo by unanimous decision.  All three scorecards read 49-46.

He pushed me hard until the last round, but I showed all my skills, especially Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.   I’m considering a move to another division, but before to make a decision I should talk to my manager and my family.”

“I didn’t do what I should have done. I’m really disappointed with myself because I trained so hard in my training camp for getting nothing tonight. I should have kept looking for takedowns, but instead, I stood up. I reacted too late in the fight.”
