UFC 166 Gains Flyweight Bout Between John Dodson and Darrell Montague

Dodson vs Dillashaw TUF14_2613UFC officials on Saturday announced a pivotal flyweight bout between John Dodson and Darrell Montague. The two will square off at UFC 166, a fight card already top heavy with big men.

Cain Velasquez puts his UFC heavyweight championship on the line in the night’s headliner against Junior dos Santos, while Daniel Cormier and Roy Nelson are featured in the co-main event.

UFC 166 takes place on Oct. 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

Dodson (14-6) is already well established in the Octagon. He won season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter at bantamweight and followed that up with back-to-back victories at flyweight, defeating Tim Elliot and Jussier Formiga.

The only black mark during his UFC tenure was a unanimous decision loss to flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC on Fox 6 in January. That was Dodson’s most recent bout, so he’ll be looking to the Montague fight to get back on the winning track.

Montague (13-2) is unknown to most UFC fans, but is one of the top 125-pounders in the world not yet fighting in the Octagon.

He enters the UFC on a four-fight winning streak, his last loss being to current UFC flyweight Ian McCall nearly two-and-a-half years ago. That loss was the only one in Montague’s last 11 bouts.
