UFC 165 live and official weigh-in results

jon-jones-alexander-gustafsson.jpgTORONTO – MMAjunkie.com was on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC 165 fighter weigh-ins, where all 26 fighters now are official for their Saturday bouts.

The festivities took place at Maple Leaf Square outside Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, the venue that hosts Saturday’s pay-per-view.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (18-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) meets top contender Alexander Gustafsson (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in the main event. Jones is looking for a UFC record sixth straight title defense at 205 pounds. The champ, who is fighting in Toronto for the third time, weighed in at 204.5 pounds, a half-pound under the title-fight max. Gustafsson, from Sweden, also came in at 204.5.

Much has been made of the Gustafsson having a similar height and reach as Jones, but the challenger said that won’t be a factor in the fight.

“It’s no factor at all,” Gustafsson said. “It’ll all come down to who’s worked the hardest and who wants that belt more.”

And for his part, Jones agreed.

“This sport is about intelligence and the way you approach this game. I’m so excited to prove that hype really doesn’t mean that much. This is going to be my third championship (fight) here in Canada, and I’m so thankful to be here.”

Once again in Toronto, a second title is on the line as interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao (30-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) defends against former WEC champ Eddie Wineland (20-8-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC). Although Wineland initially was announced as weighing 135.25 pounds, MMAjunkie.com confirmed with UFC officials that Wineland was 135 pounds and the total was announced incorrectly. Barao was 135 on the button.

Also on the main card, heavyweights Matt Mitrione (6-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Brendan Schaub (9-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) meet. The former housemates on Season 10 of “The Ultimate Fighter” once counted each other as friends, but as the buildup to the fight has grown, the two have gotten increasingly hostile toward each other. Mitrione weighed in at 260.5 pounds, while Schaub was 237. The two then had to be separated during their face-off as things got heated.

The pay-per-view opens up with a lightweight bout between Pat Healy (29-16 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Khabib Nurmagomedov (20-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC). Nurmagomedov, who missed weight his last time out, came in at 156 pounds. Healy was just shy of that at 155.75. And in a middleweight bout, Francis Carmont (21-7 MMA, 5-0 UFC) takes on Constantinos Philippou (12-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC). Each fighter weighed in at 186 pounds.

Several fighters needed towels to make weight on the preliminary card, including Ivan Menjivar, who came in at 137 pounds for his fight against Wilson Reis, who was 135. Menjivar was given two hours to cut to the bantamweight max of 136 for the fight. He came back and was 136 on his second attempt.
