UFC 163 Weigh-In Results: Champion Aldo, Challenger Jung Cleared for Main Event in Brazil

He plays the hot knife to the 145-pound division’s butter.

Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight boss Jose Aldo tipped the scales at 145 pounds for his five-round title defense against Chan Sung Jung (145) in the UFC 163 main event on Saturday at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Light heavyweight co-headliners Lyoto Machida (205) and Phil Davis (205) also met their contracted weight requirements without issue at Friday’s official weigh-in.

Aldo has rattled off 15 consecutive wins since his November 2005 submission loss to Luciano Azevedo. The 26-year-old Nova Uniao export last appeared at UFC 156 in February, when he outpointed Frankie Edgar and captured a unanimous decision over the former lightweight champion at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Pairing a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with frightening standup skills, Aldo has delivered 15 of his 22 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Wins over onetime World Extreme Cagefighting poster boy Urijah Faber, Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts standout Cub Swanson and Team Alpha Male’s Chad Mendes anchor his stellar resume. Aldo has compiled a 4-0 mark since arriving in the UFC in 2011.

The first Korean to ever challenge for UFC gold, Jung will carry a three-fight winning streak into the cage. The 26-year-old last fought at UFC on Fuel TV 3 in May 2012, when he submitted Dustin Poirier with a fourth-round brabo choke at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. Jung replaced Roufusport’s Anthony Pettis, who withdrew from the original main event with a knee injury.

UFC 163 “Aldo vs. Korean Zombie” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- also features a flyweight clash pitting former Jungle Fight champion John Lineker (*129) against Jose Maria Tome (126) and a pair of middleweight scraps, as Thales Leites (185) meets onetime British Association of Mixed Martial Arts titleholder Tom Watson (185) and “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” Season 1 winner Cezar Ferreira (185) collides with the once-beaten Thiago Santos (183).

Two hours prior, the FX network will shine its spotlight on four preliminary bouts: Vinny Magalhaes (205) vs. Anthony Perosh (205), Amanda Nunes (136) vs. Sheila Gaff (135), Sergio Moraes (170) vs. Neil Magny (171) and Ian McCall (125) vs. Iliarde Santos (125). The three remain undercard matchups will stream to the UFC’s Facebook page at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT, as 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist Rani Yahya (145) locks horns with Josh Clopton (145), Nova Uniao’s Francimar Barroso (204) faces Ednaldo Oliveira (205) and Syndicate MMA representative Bristol Marunde (171) tackles Viscardi Andrade (170).
