UFC 160 results/photos: Glover Teixeira chokes out James Te Huna in first round

LAS VEGAS – Just when James Te Huna thought he’d made it back to his feet and out of trouble, Glover Teixeira reminded him that only takes one mistake to end your night.

For Te Huna, that mistake was leaving his neck exposed as he scrambled to his feet after getting taken down. Teixeira captialized right away, locking on a guillotine choke and forcing the tap at 2:38 of the first round.

The light heavyweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC 160 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Teixeira wasted little time before planting Te Huna on his back with an early takedown. Though Te Huna survived that initial foray into the ground game, he couldn’t get all the way up without giving up something.

After the win, Teixeira received congratulations from Mike Tyson, who watched the bout at ringside with Teixeira’s friend and training partner, former UFC champion Chuck Liddell.

“It was great having Mike Tyson octagonside for my fight,” Teixeira said. “He was telling me yesterday at weigh-ins I was going to be champ some day, so it was amazing getting a win in front of him. I used to watch him as a kid late at night. I am happy with the UFC, where I am within the UFC and will be happy with whoever they decide to give me next.”

“I was hoping to bang a little longer out there,” Te Huna said. “He is an extremely smart fighter and he performed well considering he had more on the line.”

Teixeira (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC), who’s ranked No. 7 in the USA Today Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA light heavyweight rankings, has now won 19 straight fights, including all four of his fights in the octagon. Te Huna (16-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who’s No. 15 in the USA Today Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA light heavyweight rankings, loses his first fight since 2011, snapping a four-fight winning streak.
