The UFC handed out it’s typical post-fight awards and bonuses following Saturday night’s UFC 160 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, dishing out $50,000 to each of the award winners.
The Fight of the Night went to Junior dos Santos and Mark Hunt, two fighters that everyone expected to throw the kitchen sink at each other, gunning for the knockout. Both men did as expected, but it was dos Santos, late in the third round, who landed a spinning heel kick to knock Hunt out and capture the win.
The victory netted dos Santos an opportunity to try and re-capture UFC gold. UFC president Dana White confirmed that he will next face heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
The victory nearly earned dos Santos a second post-fight bonus as well.
“The Knockout of the Night was gonna be Junior dos Santos,” said White at the post-fight press conference. “It was gonna be… Mike Tyson vetoed that. He said it should be TJ Grant.”
And with that, Grant was awarded the UFC 160 Knockout of the Night by the one of the greatest knockout artists of all time.
Grant, who knocked Gray Maynard out in the first round of their bout, like dos Santos, also earned a title shot with his victory. He’ll be next up for UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson.
Glover Teixeira earned the UFC 160 Submission of the Night with his first-round guillotine finish of James Te Huna. The victory marked Teixeira’s 19th consecutive win and cemented his place among the top contenders in the UFC light heavyweight division.
The UFC handed out $200,000 in UFC 160 fighter bonuses on Saturday night.
