UFC 160 Adds Gray Maynard vs. TJ Grant and Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Abel Trujillo

Gray Maynard vs TJ GrantThe UFC 160 fight card is filling up fast, as UFC officials added two new lightweight bouts to the May 25 event in Las Vegas.

Gray Maynard will face TJ Grant, while Abel Trujillo steps into the Octagon with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Maynard (11-1-1) is coming off of a win over Clay Guida last summer, which followed up a draw and a loss to then-lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Maynard was slated to face Joe Lauzon at UFC 155 in December, but had to withdraw from the fight due to a knee injury.

He had been considering a possible move down to featherweight, but will instead face Grant at UFC 160 on Memorial weekend.

Grant (20-5) has been on a rocket ride up the lightweight ranks since dropping down from welterweight a year and a half ago.

He’s won four consecutive fights since dropping to 155 pounds. After defeating Matt Wiman at UFC on Fox 6 in January, Grant said he would fight whomever the UFC put in front of him, but that he really wanted to take a step up and start fighting Top 10 caliber opposition.

He gets that in Maynard, who is ranked No. 4 in the MMAWeekly.com World MMA Lightweight Rankings.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is another lightweight that has been tearing it up of late. Well, actually, Nurmagomedov has made a career out of tearing it up. Undefeated in his 19 professional fights, his last three were over Thiago Tavares, Gleison Tibau, and Kamal Shalorus in the Octagon.

He’ll square off with Trujillo (10-4), who is currently riding a five-fight winning streak, including his UFC debut victory over Marcus LeVesseur at UFC on Fox 5 in December.

UFC 160 features a top heavy main card with heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez granting Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva a rematch in the main event, while former champ Junior dos Santos faces Alistair Overeem in a grudge match.
