UFC 157 PosterThe UFC’s decision to immediately put newly crowned women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey into the UFC 157 main event slot against Liz Carmouche, putting Lyoto Machida vs. Dan Henderson in a supporting role as the co-main event, has raised a few eyebrows, if not sparked outright controversy.

None the less, the fight card, slated for Feb. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., is coming together quickly with several bouts announced over the past couple of days.

Aside from Rousey vs. Carmouche topping the bill and Machida vs. Henderson, Urijah Faber is on the card, rematching Ivan Menjivar. Also joining the cast is Robbie Lawler making his return to the Octagon as a welterweight to take on perennial Top 10 fighter Josh Koscheck.

UFC 157 tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, Dec. 21, with early sales already in motion for UFC Fight Club members and newsletter subscribers.

The current UFC 157 fight card:

-Ronda Rousey (6-0; #1 Women’s P4P) vs. Liz Carmouche (7-2)
-Lyoto Machida (18-3; #4 Light Heavyweight) vs. Dan Henderson (29-8)
-Urijah Faber (26-6; #3 Bantamweight) vs. Ivan Menjivar (25-9)

There are far bigger, more relevant fighters to main event a mixed martial arts card than James Te Huna and Nate "The Great" Marquardt. However, when it comes to sheer desperation, Te Huna and Marquardt should have plenty. Both men are on a losing streak and can ill-afford another loss. That dynamic could make the feature bout of UFC Fight Night 43 in New Zealand a smashing affair. This card will be exclusively broadcast Saturday, June 28, on UFC Fight Pass. Click here for details. Whenever Cub Swanson fights, there's a chance for an explosive finish. The UFC, in its ever-increasing attempts at expanding its brand around the globe, is running a lot of shows. This is an unarguable point. Whether or not you believe it is running too many events comes down to your own personal preference. Some of you can't get enough mixed martial arts, and you'll gladly watch two events in one day (like the UFC has planned for this Saturday). For some of you, two events in a single day—and four events in the span of eight days—is simply too much of a good thing more
