09-Urijah-Faber-7420-UFC-157-weighUrijah Faber defeated Ivan Menjivar several years ago, although it was due to an illegal kick. Saturday night at UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., he left no doubts about the fight, finishing Menjivar in the first round.

Fending off a couple big right hands to early, Faber took Menjivar to the mat and unleashed a brutal series of elbows.

Menjivar remained active off of his back, forcing Faber to stand and eat a couple of upkicks, but Faber did not relent, diving through an upkick and continuing to hammer away with the elbows.

Menjivar kept moving, and eventually regained his feet, but as he did, Faber jumped on his back, securing a figure-four body lock. Staying glued to Menjivar’s back, Faber sunk the rear naked choke, causing Menjivar to tap out while standing.

“California is my spot man, so happy to get a win here for you guys,” said Faber after the fight, before giving much respect to his opponent.

“Ivan is a very crafty veteran. He’s a pioneer in the sport. I just attacked the neck.”

The victory put Faber back on track after losing an interim UFC bantamweight title fight to current interim champion Renan Barão last summer.
