UFC 155 Update: Featherweights Leonard Garcia, Cody McKenzie Set for Dec. 29 Showdown

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s year-end show has received a new, featherweight addition. Promotion officials announced Saturday that Leonard Garcia will collide with Cody McKenzie at UFC 155.

The event takes place Dec. 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a heavyweight title rematch between reigning champion Junior dos Santos and ex-kingpin Cain Velasquez. The evening’s main draw airs live on pay-per-view, while the prelims will be shown on the FX network.

Known for his aggressive, hard-swinging style, Garcia, 33, has lost three straight fights and four of his last five, with his lone victory in that span coming via controversial split decision over Nam Phan in December 2010. Phan avenged that defeat 13 months ago, earning a unanimous decision over the game Garcia at UFC 136. Most recently, “Bad Boy” dropped a judges’ verdict to Matt Grice, falling on June 8 at UFC on FX 3.

After going winless in 2011, McKenzie, 24, snapped a two-fight skid by submitting four-time NCAA Division III national champion wrestler Marcus LeVesseur on May 15 at UFC on Fuel TV 3. The Alaskan then decided to make the cut to 145 pounds, where he was greeted rudely by former title challenger Chad Mendes, who put McKenzie away with a devastating body shot in just 31 seconds this past July at UFC 148.
