Former no. 1 contender Yushin Okami put one in the win column after a two-fight losing skid at UFC 150: Edgar vs. Henderson 2. Okami showcased his dominance in grappling over Buddy Roberts with a second round TKO victory.
Roberts got the better of the striking early in round one and landed some hard jabs and a hard right hook. Okami clinches and drags Roberts to the mat and passed to side control. Towards the end of the round Okami secured Roberts back and landed several hard shots to the head that nearly stopped the fight.
In round two, Okami scored a double leg takedown on Roberts early. Once the Japanese fighter was on top he immediately passed guard and easily achieved full mount. Roberts then turns and is easily back mounted, and from there Okami lands several unanswered shots on Roberts.
Referee Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the fight at 3:05 via TKO in the second round.
With the win over Roberts, Okami scored a much-needed victory and moves his record to 11-4 in the Octagon.
