UFC 146 Results: Facebook Prelims Produce Submission Wins for Teixeira and Sass

Paul Sass
Two quick submission wins capped off the UFC 146 prelims on Facebook with Glover Teixeira finally making his debut, and Paul Sass racking up yet another triangle choke.

Jacob Volkmann vs. Paul Sass

If Rousimar Palhares has the heel hook and Cody McKenzie has the guillotine, then Paul Sass has cornered the market on the triangle choke.

The British submission specialist has now finished nine opponents with the submission hold, and he added his latest victim on Saturday as he put away Jacob Volkmann at UFC 146.

The fight hit the ground early, but as soon as Sass had his guard locked up, he was already positioning for his favorite finishing maneuver. A brief lapse in judgment from Volkmann gave Sass the opening he was looking for, and as soon as he had his legs in position he pulled down on his opponent’s arm and the tap came shortly thereafter.

“I just practice them all the time and it just came natural to me,” Sass said after the win about his signature triangle choke.

The win marks Sass’ third in the UFC, and it doesn’t seem to matter who is next, but they better be on the look out for the triangle choke.

Glover Teixeira vs. Kyle Kingsbury

It’s been a long time coming for Glover Teixeira to finally make his UFC debut, but once he landed in the Octagon he did not disappoint.

The Brazilian came with an All-Star corner team as well with UFC legends Chuck Liddell, Marco Ruas and Pedro Rizzo holding things down at Teixeira made short work of opponent Kyle Kingsbury.

From the opening bell it was all Teixeira as he first blasted away at Kingsbury with strikes before dropping him with one big shot, and the Brazilian immediately took the mount.

Kingsbury tried to buck out of the position, but it was to no avail as Teixeira continued to punish him from the top before locking on an arm triangle choke. A few seconds later Kingsbury was tapping and Glover Teixeira was a winner in his UFC debut.

Mike Brown vs. Daniel Pineda

Former WEC champion Mike Brown had a fight on his hands from two time UFC winner Daniel Pineda, but the American Top Team competitor was able to come out on top by unanimous decision.

With Brown as the better wrestler and Pineda as a tough grappler, the two featherweights had some great scrambles on the mat, but as the fight wore on it was the former champion that seemed to get the advantage.

Brown also landed some nasty body shots that wore Pineda down throughout the fight.

Pineda almost battled back in the third round as he took Brown’s back and looked for a rear naked choke, but time ran out before he lock anything on to finish the fight.

With his 2nd win in a row, Brown picks up a big win over a very tough young competitor as he looks to get back into the featherweight contender’s race.
