UFC 143 Results: Renan Barao Out-Strikes Scott Jorgensen

Renan Barao showed his striking was key against Scott Jorgensen in their main card fight at UFC 143.

For three straight rounds, Barao held the edge on the feet and scored the points necessary to win the contest unanimously.

Barao stood across from Jorgensen and kept his opponent at bay with accurate jabs. Barao landed several low kicks to Jorgensen’s lead leg, as well as two heavy spinning back kicks in the first round. Jorgensen didn’t have much of an answer on the feet.

Barao continued the standing onslaught in the second round. Takedown attempts by Jorgensen were met with stiff defense, as he looked for another avenue to gain an advantage in this fight. After two rounds, Jorgensen looked to be down two rounds to none.

Jorgensen began to turn it up a bit in the third, as his corner yelled, “it’s now or never.” Barao, however, landed more strikes and with more accuracy. Jorgensen bloodied up Barao’s nose, but it was the Brazilian that held the edge throughout the 15-minute fight.

Judges saw it in Barao’s favor with 30-27 scores across the panel.

It seems going the distance was in Barao’s game plan.

“I came here to fight three rounds,” Barao said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan through an interpreter. “He was a very tough opponent. I expected that. But I was very well-prepared (and) I had a very good camp.”

With the win, Barao improves to 28-1-0 (1 NC), while Jorgensen drops to 13-5.
