UFC 138 Bonuses: Barao, Pickett, Etim, Mills Bag $70,000 Each

Four men took home an extra $70,000 on Saturday night, as Terry Etim, Che Mills, Brad Pickett and Renan Barao were each awarded official bonuses following UFC 138.

Etim (Pictured, file photo) bagged “Submission of the Night” for his lightning-quick victory over Edward Faaloloto, while countryman Mills was awarded “Knockout of the Night” after finishing Chris Cope nearly as quickly. Meanwhile, Barao and Pickett earned “Fight of the Night” honors for their fast-paced co-main event at LG Arena in Birmingham, England.

Etim’s Octagon return was impressive in its brevity. The Brit opened up with strikes in the early going and Faaloloto responded by charging forward for a takedown. However, Etim countered by jumping guard and locking up an arm-in guillotine. The Hawaiian tried with all his might to extricate his head, but Etim’s squeeze was too tight, resulting in a 17-second submission victory for the 25-year-old.

Mills went on the offensive early, clipping Cope with a sharp right cross and landing a knee that buckled the knees of his American opponent. Referee Marc Goddard nearly stopped the bout but allowed it to continue as Cope gamely rose to his feet while eating punches. The maneuver proved futile, as the “Ultimate Fighter” alum was once again floored by a knee from the lanky Brit, spelling the end at just 40 seconds of the opening period.

Barao and Pickett slugged it out for the first half of the opening frame before the Brazilian took the reins. Landing a picture-perfect knee to Pickett's skull, Barao sent the Brit reeling and leaped onto the back of his prone foe. Digging his hooks in, the 24-year-old slid his arm under Pickett’s throat, applying a fight-ending rear-naked choke to extend Barao’s winning streak to 27 fights.
