UFC 133 Fight Card Update: Alessio Sakara Out, Jorge Rivera Awaits New Opponent

Jorge Rivera

A scheduled fight between Jorge Rivera and Alessio Sakara will not take place on the UFC 133 fight card. The two were supposed to have squared off on Aug. 6 in Philadelphia, but Rivera on Monday tweeted that the fight is off.

Both fighters had three-fight winning streaks halted by their most recent opponents.

Rivera (19-8) faltered in a controversial pairing with brash British bomber Michael Bisping at UFC 127. Prior to that bout, his career experienced a resurgence when he defeated Nate Quarry, Rob Kimmons, and Nissen Osterneck.

Sakara (15-8) reeled off consecutive victories over James Irvin, Thales Leites, and Joe Vedepo before he ran into the Chris Weidman wall at UFC on Versus 3 in March.

Rivera told MMAFighting.com that Sakara was injured in training.

A search for a replacement is underway, and the UFC’s matchmaking track record, he will likely have a new opponent in short order, but none had been finalized at the time of publication.
