UFC 132 Play-by-Play: Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman

Siver lands the push kick on Wiman

Round 1: Leg kick by Wiman opens the fight and Siver counters with a straight right.  Left hook lands for Siver as Wiman comes in.  Single leg attempt by Wiman, but Siver sprawls beautifully and they are back to their feet.  A brief, wild exchange from both, and Siver gets the best of it.  High kick from Wiman is ducked by Siver.  Siver wings a few wild hooks that look scary, but that’s it.  More wild swinging from both and the crowd erupts with applause.  Wiman with a body lock takedown as he drags Siver to the mat.  Siver, however, is having none of it, and he posts up back to his feet.  The fighters now clinch coming off the takedown and they are pressed against the cage with Wiman using disruptive shots.  Siver looking to control the neck of Wiman and possibly sink in a choke, but Wiman defends correctly, and holds on to a single leg in hopes of taking it to the mat.  The fighters separate as Siver manages to get his back off the cage.  Front kick by Siver, followed by a leg kick.  Wiman wings a wild hook and leaves himself open for a Siver takedown.  Siver takes Wiman down with a body lock and is now in half guard doing damage.  Siver stands up now, as he wants to strike with Wiman.  Wiman rushes in and clutches a single leg, but Siver shrugs him off.  Wiman comes in, and Siver punishes him with combos and it seems as if Wiman is a bit wobbled.  The round ends with a Wiman takedown. Wiman lands the elbow

Round 2: Wiman pacing back and forth waiting for the round to start.  Siver opens with a myriad of strikes to try and set the pace, but that doesn’t bother Wiman as he rushes in for a takedown.  Wiman clutching a single leg now, as Siver sprawls against the cage.  Seemingly very similar to the Aaron Simpson fight, earlier.  Siver peppering Wiman with shots, to make him pay for the takedown attempt.  Siver falls to the ground, seemingly from a trip, and Wiman pounces.  Wiman now in Siver’s guard landing some effective ground and pound as he looks to score points.  A brutal elbow from Wiman seems to have cut Siver above the eye, as blood spills to the mat.  More elbows from Wiman, and the crowd cheers.  Wiman staying real active, punches, elbows, anything he can muster as we close in on two minutes left in round 2.  Wiman postures and lands another slicing elbow, and Siver is really bleeding now.  Wiman clips Siver with another elbow and that opens Siver up for more punches and strikes, and it’s getting real ugly for Denis Siver at this point.  Wiman reigns strikes down as the round ends. Wiman bloodies up Siver

Round 3: Siver opens popping his jab as Wiman circles looking for an opening.  Leg kick by Wiman, followed by looping hooks that Siver easily avoids.  Once again, Wiman shoots a double leg attempt and Siver sprawls against the cage.  Siver with some peppering shots to the head of Wiman, looking to break the grip.  Wiman lets go, and we are back to standing.  Leg kick by Siver, trying to keep Wiman at bay.  Patented spinning back kick from Denis Siver just misses Wiman’s stomach.  Leg kick by Siver, as he pops his jab.  Body kick by Siver lands, but it could have been much worse.  Counter left hook by Wiman connects as he looks to parlay the strike into a takedown, but to no avail.  Overhand right by Wiman clips Siver on the temple, but he doesn’t seem to be wobbled.  Once again, Wiman shoots a single leg and Siver sprawls against the cage.  Wiman briefly drops for a guillotine, but Siver easily escapes, as they are both soaked with sweat.  Wiman with a double leg takedown, as he slams Siver in the middle of the Octagon.  Siver posts and we are back to standing.  Wiman eats a counter shot from Siver and drops for a leg out of desperation as the round ends.  That hurt him.  Almost an impossible round to score, but MMAWeekly.com scores it 10-9 Siver.
