UFC 132 Bonuses Net $75,000: Cruz, Faber, Ortiz and Condit All Pocket Extra Cash

UFC 132 took place on Saturday night in Las Vegas with a competitive main event between champion Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber. Cruz won the five-round decision over Faber, getting payback for the loss he received from their first match-up when the two were featherweights.

The bout capped off a night where $75,000 in bonuses were handed out for hard-fought action, according to UFC president Dana White.

The main event between Cruz and Faber was a back-and-forth duel that earned the “Fight of the Night” bonus. Cruz out-pointed Faber for five rounds, but Faber landed more power shots, knocking the champion back several feet each time he landed. This type of action had the scorecards all over the place, but the champion ended up scoring more takedowns and moved well throughout the affair. Each fighter pocketed the $75,000 on top of their fight purses.

Tito Ortiz, who’s job was on the line going into his fight with Ryan Bader, surprised everyone in the MMA world and submitted his opponent for the “Submission of the Night” bonus. Ortiz closed distance and landed a right hand that dropped Bader. From there, Ortiz was able to get to the ground and slap on a guillotine choke, forcing Bader to tap out. The win was Ortiz’s first in five years.

Carlos Condit earned the “Knockout of the Night” bonus with his win over Dong Hyun Kim. Although there were several fights that were worthy of a knockout bonus, it was Condit’s flying knee then subsequent punches on the ground against the fence that earned the $75,000 in cash. UFC 132 was the stage for one of the toughest “Knockout of the Night” awards to call in a long time.
