Round 1: Florian opens up with a couple of headkick attempts.  Nunes throws a couple of combos, but doesn’t land any.  Both fighter having trouble landing a solid shot in the first minute of the round.  Florian works hard to get the takedown, but Nunes does a great job of avoiding it, showing intense defense.  Nunes then transitions to take Florian down and gets him down just momentarily.  The two return to the feet and Nunes lands a punch followed by a solid lowkick.  Spinning backlist by Nunes lands cleanly.  Florian ducks under a punch and gets a strong takedown.  Florian on top of Nunes but the Brazilian fighter escapes.  The round ends just after Nunes lands a clean punch to Florian’s chin, dropping him to his back.

Round 2: Florian uses a jab and eats a Nunes inside lowkick.  Nunes throwing some wild punches that don’t land.  Florian ducks under an overhand right and gets the clinch.  Florian trying to get Nunes down to the ground, but Nunes is doing a great job of preventing the fight from going there.  Nunes gets the body clinch and trips Florian down to his back.  Nunes now stands over Florian looking for his best opportunity to jump in with a punch, but the referee stands Florian up.  Back on the feet, Florian holds the center of the Octagon and ducks under another Nunes punch before shooting in for a takedown and bring the fight to the floor.  Florian gets into Nunes’ guard where he lands some effective strikes.  The round ends there a moment later.

Kenny Florian and Diego Nunes at UFC 131Round 3: The final round had Florian looking like he had more energy than Nunes.  The fighters trade shots and Florian gets the double-leg takedown, ending up in Nunes’ guard.  Florian transitions to halfguard, landing elbows.  Now in side control, Florian works from there, but Nunes escapes and gets it back to the feet in a clinch.  They separate and Nunes tries some highjacks, but looks visibly exhausted.  Florian gets a Thai clinch and lands a knee.  The round ends just after Nunes lands a hard punch that shakes Florian.

Official call: Kenny Florian defeats Diego Nunes via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
